My name is Moses Madut, and I am a refugee residing in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya. Meeting Amina Mothupi has positively transformed my life. I am incredibly grateful to share how Amina Mothupi’s coaching has changed me. When we first met, I was lacking confidence in myself, unsure of my goals, and, as a refugee, filled with challenges. However, Amina’s warmth, wisdom, and genuine care allowed me to feel safe enough to open up. She helped me recognise my own strength and taught me how to break my dreams into actionable steps. Her belief in me provided the courage to believe in myself, and I began to see challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles.

I joined AReL in August 2024, feeling uncertain and frustrated with the course offerings. I was unsure if I had made the right choice, as I struggled to find clarity in my learning journey. However, through research and inquiries, I had the privilege of meeting Madam Amina—a dedicated coach and mentor who would change my perspective entirely.

Madam Amina, both a coach and a parent, became a guiding force in my life. Her patience, encouragement, and deep understanding helped me navigate challenges I once thought were insurmountable. I met Mama Amina in 2017 at the end of my matric year, although I had had a few encounters with her previously. She took on the role as my mentor as I was about to start my journey to qualify as a medical doctor in South Africa. Our paths crossing has been such a blessing to me. She’s had the most unwavering support of me and my dreams, reminding me always that if I can dream it, I can make it a reality. I had the reassurance that I have someone who’s selflessly in my corner always- to turn to when the going gets tough and to celebrate my wins with- big or small. Her warmth and understanding has made me feel safe in our relationship and has been an inspiration for the qualities I wish to always possess. Coming from a village wherein she pursued her dreams relentlessly and did not just do what was expected of her as a woman, I saw myself in her. I felt validated that if you do feel destined for greatness, thrive for it fearlessly or do it scared, that’s also okay. Mama Amina has been more than just a mentor to me, a confidante, a mother; a role model.
